Optimising yacht insurance portfolios through connected telematics
What we do
Connect
Yachtech has developed specialist monitoring devices that can be connected into any yacht. We capture important telemetry data and deliver this to yacht owners as a first of it’s kind monitoring solution that encourages active risk management.
The data we collect also gets uploaded to our cloud based portal, where an extensive database is maintained, and an underwriting portal for industry leading telematics assessment.
Connectivity allows us to make significant advancements in data driven underwriting and providing the right tools for pricing and actuarial purposes.
Predict and Prevent
Our algorithms and learning models ingest hundreds of millions of data points from both the onboard Yachtech devices as well as other environmental data available. We monitor the entire portfolio in real-time and predict when something is about to go wrong. This ranges from machinery failures right the way through to weather tracking.
Analyse
We aggregate the data so that underwriters can make the right decisions to support their portfolio. Whether that be machinery failure trends, usage concerns, exposure management or aggregate reporting; we provide all the insights to facilitate practical data-driven decisions.
Our Product Offering
-
WeatherProtect™
Windstorms, Hurricanes and high wind events are now forecasted between 5 and 10 days in advanced. WeatherProtect™ uses APIs to continuously access this data and provide advanced warnings to boat and yacht owners, allowing them to act to secure and protect their asset. Underwriters have the functionality to enable automated alerts to be sent based on specific weather parameters such as forecasted wind speed, rain, hail, snow and much more.
Alerting owners based on the real-time location of their vessel, and advanced weather warnings allows them to pro-actively protect their vessel by either securing it against the elements or relocating out of harms way. -
LightningProtect™
Our advanced algorithms track the movement of lightning storms, as well as forecast the formation of new storms. When a boat or vessel has a lightning warning, our system automatically alerts the owner, and provides them with the opportunity to protect their asset. This may be moving out of the way of a lightning storm, or to isolate their electronics on board to limit the electronics damage.
Our onboard monitoring devices pick up changes in voltages through the system, therefore an overlay of lightning strikes allows us to make an early identification of whether a vessel has been hit by lightning, allowing for immediate loss mitigation. -
OnboardProtect™
The Yachtech smart monitoring device is state of the art IoT. It plugs into the vessel’s battery system, and starts logging vital data from the vessel’s onboard electrical circuit. Voltage is constantly measured to understand the draw from certain systems, as well as comparing with GPS data to provide an accurate assessment of the systems on board.
Having access to the vessel’s full system status remotely empowers yacht owners to being risk mitigators possible and prevent losses from occurring.
-
YachtScorecard™
Data alone does not improve underwriting, which is why the Yachtech system focuses on delivering actionable insights. Individual risks are scored based on a variety of categories, including weather usage, depth usage, owner’s behaviour, battery/alternator performance, vessel performance and many more. These scorecard are ranked from 1 to 10, to give underwriters a flexible opportunity to provide credits and debits on factors that are important to their underwriting strategy.
-
Portfolio Monitoring
Underwriters have live fleet monitoring capabilities. This allows them to see where their portfolio’s aggregates are in real-time, as well as based on their declared home port. Exposure management has never before been this accurate and up to date, providing underwriters with confidence and actionable insights to plan and deploy any catastrophe response.
-
Insurance Integration
The Yachtech Portal integrates into any digital yacht MGA that has API capabilities. At inception, the Yachtech smart monitoring device is couriered directly to the policy holder’s address along with self-installation instructions. The policy holder’s installation is monitored and guided through our bespoke CRM system at every step of the way.
As soon as the device is live, the policy holder and the insurer will be able to access te real-time monitoring in their designated app/portal. -
Storm Cell Tracking
Advanced Storm Cell Tracking allows us to monitor the trajectory of incoming localised storms. These may bring severe rain, wind or hail with them, which could put yachts at risk. Yachtech tracks their trajectory and initiates an automated alerting system which sends emails and notifications to yacht owners to make them aware of any incoming storms with advice on how to protect their assets.
-
Weather Alert Monitoring
Weather alert monitoring keeps an active eye on any weather alerts which are issued by local authorities. When these are issued, any vessels within the affected areas will be notified accordingly.
-
Hurricane Tracking
Hurricane tracking is amongst our most powerful feature to protect insurance portfolios. When a hurricane, cyclone or other named windstorm is approaching, our clients are automatically notified with the trajectory of the storm. Once a hurricane has passed through, we are able to assess our aggregate exposures at the click of a button for real-time and live location based aggregates.
